Planning a 4-day, 3-night sailing adventure? Here are a few important things you should know before joining our Lombok to Komodo liveaboard experience. A little preparation will help you enjoy every moment of your journey.
A liveaboard trip is an adventure, not just a vacation. You'll spend four days and three nights living on a boat while exploring some of Indonesia's most spectacular islands. Throughout the journey, you'll enjoy activities such as hiking, snorkeling, swimming, and island hopping, so it's important to be in good physical and mental condition. If you're prone to seasickness, we strongly recommend bringing motion sickness medication and preparing yourself for several days at sea.
Even if you choose one of the luxury boat, a liveaboard experience is very different from staying in a five-star hotel. You may hear the sound of the engines while sleeping, feel the movement of the waves, and experience changing weather throughout the journey. Life at sea is simple, peaceful, and closely connected to nature. Small adjustments are sometimes necessary, and flexibility is part of every great sailing adventure.
Your safety and comfort are our top priorities. Every boat operated by Golden Island Cruises is regularly inspected and meets the required safety standards before every departure. One of the things we value most is our crew. We carefully select every captain and crew member, and each of them has at least 10 years of experience in their respective roles. Their local knowledge, sailing expertise, and familiarity with these waters play a vital role in ensuring every journey is safe, smooth, and professionally managed.Experienced crews are especially important when navigating the changing sea conditions around Sumbawa, Komodo National Park, and the Flores Sea. Their knowledge helps reduce navigational risks and ensures that every decision made at sea prioritizes the safety of our guests.Depending on your boat, you can expect comfortable cabins, freshly prepared meals, drinking water, snacks, seasonal fruit, dining areas, sun decks, relaxing spaces, and onboard entertainment such as karaoke or music. All boats are equipped with essential safety equipment, including life jackets, life rafts, and fire extinguishers. You can explore the complete facilities and specifications of each boat on its dedicated boat page.
The ocean is unpredictable, and weather conditions can change at any time. For the safety of all guests, our captain may adjust the itinerary, change the order of destinations, or skip certain stops if sea conditions are not suitable. While we always do our best to follow the planned itinerary, safety will always come first. There are also a few sections of the journey where the sea is naturally rougher. On the second night, as the boat sails between Sumbawa and Komodo National Park, we cross the Sanggar Strait and Sangeang Strait, where waves can be stronger and less predictable. On the third day, after entering Komodo National Park, the waters between Pink Beach and Padar Island can also become choppy due to changing currents and swirling waves. These conditions are more common during the Southeast Monsoon (around May to September) and the West Monsoon (around December to February). If you are prone to seasickness, we strongly recommend bringing medication that works well for you and taking it before reaching these areas. Being prepared will help you stay comfortable and enjoy the adventure even when the sea becomes more challenging.
Your journey begins in Lombok and ends in Labuan Bajo, taking you through some of Indonesia's most breathtaking destinations.Depending on the itinerary, you'll experience highlights such as trekking on Kenawa Island, swimming with whale sharks in Saleh Bay, visiting the legendary Komodo dragons, relaxing at Pink Beach, watching the sunrise from Padar Island, snorkeling in crystal-clear waters, and exploring beautiful islands like Manjarite and Kelor before arriving in Labuan Bajo. For a complete day-by-day itinerary, please visit our itinerary page.
Golden Island Cruises is equipped with Starlink satellite internet, allowing you to stay connected even while sailing through some of Indonesia's most remote islands. Whether you'd like to share your adventure, check in with family, or catch up on a few messages, you'll have internet access for most of the journey. However, please keep in mind that satellite internet is still affected by weather conditions and the surrounding landscape. In some remote areas, particularly while crossing the waters of Sumbawa, there may be brief periods where the connection becomes weak or temporarily unavailable. We recommend downloading any important documents, maps, music, or offline entertainment before departure, just in case you experience short interruptions along the way.
One of the most frequently asked questions from our guests is about the wildlife they encounter during the trip, especially whale sharks in Saleh Bay and the Komodo dragons in Komodo National Park.Whale Sharks in Saleh BayMany guests notice that local fishermen sometimes attract whale sharks by feeding small fish near their fishing platforms. This practice has existed for decades, long before tourism developed in the area. Today, Saleh Bay is recognized as an important whale shark habitat and is managed as a conservation area by the local government. Tourism activities are regulated to help protect these gentle giants while allowing visitors to observe them responsibly. Why Do Some Komodo Dragons Look So Calm?Another common question is whether Komodo dragons are sedated so visitors can easily see them. To date, we have never found any verified evidence that Komodo dragons are intentionally drugged or injected for tourism purposes.According to local rangers and experienced guides who work in the park every day, Komodo dragons are naturally ambush predators. They spend much of their time resting to conserve energy and can remain motionless for long periods, especially during the hottest hours of the day. While every wildlife encounter is different, their calm appearance is generally considered part of their natural behavior rather than the result of human intervention. As a responsible tour operator, we encourage all guests to respect wildlife, follow the instructions of the park rangers, and appreciate these extraordinary animals in their natural habitat.
We recommend carrying enough cash before your trip, as there are no ATMs during the sailing route.Cash may be needed for Komodo National Park entrance fees (if not included in your package), personal purchases, optional activities, drinks outside the standard inclusions, or gratuities for the crew.
Before confirming your booking, please take a few minutes to carefully read our Terms & Conditions. They contain important information regarding payments, cancellations, itinerary changes, safety policies, and other details that will help you better understand how our trips operate.
A little preparation goes a long way. We recommend bringing comfortable clothing for hiking and swimming, sunscreen, a hat, sunglasses, reef-safe toiletries, personal medication, waterproof bags, and travel insurance. Most importantly, bring an adventurous spirit and realistic expectations. Every sailing trip is unique, and that's what makes each journey so memorable. The ocean, wildlife, sunsets, and landscapes constantly change, creating an experience that can never be exactly the same twice. We look forward to welcoming you aboard and sharing an unforgettable adventure across the beautiful islands of Komodo National Park.
