Home > Blog

Hello, fellow adventurers! Have you ever imagined standing on a white-sand beach, feeling the sea breeze on your face, when suddenly a three-meter-long giant lizard appears, letting out a low growl? This isn’t a scene from Jurassic Park—this is real life on Komodo Island, Indonesia!

As a nature lover who has just returned from my dream trip, I can’t wait to share this unforgettable experience. Komodo Island is not only home to the legendary Komodo dragons, but also a paradise for snorkeling, hiking, and breathtaking sunsets. If you’re looking for an exotic, Instagram-worthy destination that also delivers a serious adrenaline rush, this is it. Let’s dive into my full story and practical travel tips to make your Komodo trip a success!

Why Komodo Should Be on Your Bucket List?

Komodo National Park, located in East Nusa Tenggara, has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991. The park is home to around 3,000 Komodo dragons (Varanus komodoensis), ancient reptiles that have existed for over 4 million years. These incredible creatures can run fast, swim well, and have a venomous bite. Don’t worry though—exploring with official local guides is safe and well-managed.

The Journey Begins: Liveaboard Adventure in Flores Sea

Our journey started with Komodo Tour Indonesia by Golden Island Cruise. We chose a shared cabin package for a 3 days 2 nights liveaboard trip, sailing from Kayangan to Labuan Bajo.

I arrived in Labuan Bajo and boarded the liveaboard for an unforgettable experience. On the first day, we landed on Kenawa Island, then continued to Loh Liang, the best spot to see Komodo dragons. We witnessed a female Komodo guarding her nest, while the babies hid in trees to avoid being eaten by adults—yes, Komodos are known for cannibalism!

Next, we went snorkeling at , Manjarite, Kelor,Pink Beach, famous for its naturally pink sand created from crushed red coral. The water was crystal clear, filled with tropical fish, sea turtles, and vibrant

coral reefs. At night, we enjoyed dinner on the boat under a sky full of stars—perfect for couples or solo travelers.

Day Two: Padar Island and Underwater Wonders

On the second day, we hiked Padar Island to reach its iconic viewpoint. The trail isn’t too difficult (about 30–45 minutes), and the reward is a stunning panorama of three bays with different shades of blue—absolutely worth the effort.

In the afternoon, we visited Manjarite and Kelor Point, amazing snorkeling spots where we swam with baby sharks and friendly sea turtles. Hands down, one of the best experiences of my life!

Fascinating Facts About Komodo Dragons

Giant Size: Male Komodo dragons can grow up to 3 meters long and weigh around 90 kg. They eat deer, wild boar, and sometimes carrion.

Venomous Bite: Their saliva contains bacteria and anticoagulant venom, which can cause severe infection if untreated.

Unique Reproduction: Female Komodos can reproduce without mating (parthenogenesis)—a true natural wonder.

Conservation Efforts: Thanks to the national park, their population is relatively stable, though threats like poaching and climate change remain.

Beyond Komodos, the islands boast incredible biodiversity, including endemic birds, monkeys, and over 260 species of coral. If you love wildlife documentaries, this place is pure paradise.
